I have a few units left of the special deal UPS battery backup units.
These are professionally refurbished units with brand new batteries at a
third of the price they cost new. I use two of these exact refurbished
UPS's to protect my computers.

For those that don't know, a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) is a
little box that sits near your computer and plugs in between your computer
and the AC wall outlet. If the power goes out the UPS switches to battery
power and your computer keeps running as though nothing has happened. It
will continue to run on battery power until the power returns (usually
seconds later) or the batteries run out (usually 15-30 minutes).

While supplies last I have APC SmartUPS 700 VA (refurbished with brand new
batteries) UPS's for only $120! These units cost over $350 brand new.
They are warrantied for 9 months.

Here are the reasons you should use a UPS to protect every computer (or
even expensive home electronics such as TV's and stereos) you own:

1. Battery backup power means you can keep working when the power goes
out.

2. Battery backup power means you don't lose the data you were
working on when the power goes out. Normally you would lose everything
you did since you last saved your work.

3. Battery backup power means your computer doesn't suffer a sudden power
down that can corrupt your files or file system. Your computer won't have
to go through the "this computer was improperly shutdown" process.

4. Your computer power supply (and arguably most other components) will
live longer because they are protected against sudden power outages, sags,
spikes, etc.

5. UPS's generally have better surge/spike protection than your typical
power bar and surge protector. The units I am selling have
industry-leading surge protection.

Here are the advantages specific to the UPS's that I am offering in this
special deal:

1. Genuine APC (American Power Conversion) brand is THE industry leading
brand. I trust my own computers to no other brand except APC. (see
apc.com)

2. SmartUPS high-end product line: these units are part of APC's high-end
full-featured line featuring brownout/sag/overvoltage protection, smart
signalling and other advanced features.

3. Professionally refurbished with brand new batteries means that you can
trust the UPS to be reliable and have a long life.

4. User replaceable batteries with easy access protect your investment by
allowing you to use the unit for 5, 10 or more years! I personally have
some APC units that have been in use for 10 years. Most cheaper, non-APC,
and brick-style UPS's are the throw-away type that are useless after the
batteries die (2-5 years). Such wastage is bad for the environment and
your pocket-book.

5. Beefy true 700 VA battery capacity gives you long run-time (time on
battery before the battery runs out of power) for average computer and
peripheral loads (most likely 20-40 minutes). Many cheaper or
lower-capacity UPS's will only provide 3-5 minutes. You can even power
multiple computers with one UPS as long as you stay within the load
limits. I have one customer running 3 computers (no monitors) off one of
these!

Some things you should know about owning a UPS:

1. UPS batteries require replacement every 2-5 years (usually 3-4 on
average). Batteries usually cost $40-$80. I sell genuine APC
replacements at reasonable prices, or you can buy 3rd party replacements
from most battery specialists. If you buy APC, they pay to ship back your
dead battery for environmentally safe recycling.

2. You cannot (and would not want to anyway) plug in high-current devices
such as laser printers or microwave ovens.

3. UPS's need some ventilation and should be kept cool to prolong battery
life. The units I am selling have air vents on both sides that must be
kept open. Placing the unit on the floor in a normal air-conditioned is
completely adequate.

4. Anyone can set up a UPS themselves: it's like plugging in a power bar.
Very easy!
