[aix thinkpad] info wanted about PPC thinkpad market

hello aixtp'ers,

please help this prospective owner understand 
the situation: on eBay an 850 went recently as 
parts machine for $35; a working 850 (lost 
password) is up currently for $250.

some specific questions:
1. what is the best buying channel?
2. should I hold out for an 860?
3. expected reasonable price?
please add other info

my AIX experience is olden days, on an
IBM-RT--my various thinkpads run linux
